EKM has a long history to be traced back to the post graduation of both Senior Partners Mr. T.O. El Karib and Dr. Amin M. Medani in 1962 from the Faculty of Law of the University of Khartoum. Mr. El Karib immediately then joined the largest law firm of Mohammed A. Mahgoub, who later served both as Foreign Minister and Prime Minister. Prior to that in 1968/69 El Karib was selected an Eisenhower Exchange fellow in 

Philadelphia to  spend one year in the US. to be acquainted with the American Law practice with law firms in Washington D.C. Boston, Los Anglos and San Francisco. He also obtained a Diploma in American and International Law from SMU in Dallas Texas. Following Mahgoub’s death Mr. Karib established his own law firm. Mr. Medani who worked for a short period in the Sudan Judiciary, later joined the academia as a lecturer in the abovementioned Faculty of Law after earning his LL.M. in London University and Ph.D.at Edinburgh University. He then left Sudan to work for the UN Organisation and the World Bank until his return to the Sudan when in 1978 they joined hands to establish the present law firm, EKM. Prior to his final return to Sudan, Dr. Medani was Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – UN in Gaza and occupied Territories, in Palestine, in Kosovo, in Kabul, in Baghdad, Iraq and for the Arab Countries stationed in Beirut.

Partner Yahya: LLB Honours. University of Khartoum. Spent some years as senior managing counsel at the leading Saudi Arabia Law Offices of Alim in Jeddah.

Partner Amani: is an LLB Honours, University of Khartoum, an LLM. University of Pretoria South Africa.

Associate Samawal, is an LLB Honours University of Khartoum. He was selected as the Sudan's candidate for the International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) 2008 Programme; he spent a period of 3 months training with the law firm of SJ Berwin LLP, London Office.

Since then the Partnership [EKM,]  with its two Senior Partners, joined by other partners, associates and trainees assisted by an adequate number of support staff, claims to be the largest firm in the Sudan with specialization in the number of various branches of the law mentioned elsewhere in this record. The firm has its own office villa situated outside the beaten track of down town Khartoum.
